An effective approach to improve microstructure and tribological properties of cold sprayed Al alloys

Abstract Cold spray is considered as an emerging technique for preparing wear-resistant metal matrix composite coatings on the surface of various kinds metallic materials. In this work, a viable strategy “cold spraying + hot rolling post-treatment” was successfully applied to prepare B 4 C/6061 Al coating commercially available 6061 plates. The results revealed that post-treatment in uniform distribution C particles alloy matrix, good inter-splat bonding, and sufficient plasticity splats through effective healing defects splat boundaries as-sprayed deposit. As result, coating/substrate bonding strength rolled sample increased two-fold when compared with sample. Moreover, process resulted much improved tribological properties wear rate ∼40% substrate. obtained indicated idea combining cold treatment quite improving Further, approach seems equally repairing/remanufacturing unserviceable components.
